Castle Street closed by fire at pub

Salisbury's Castle Street was closed today (27th December) whilst firefighters dealt with a fire at the Avon Brewery pub.

Multiple appliances were in attendance at the address, and police closed the road while the incident was ongoing.

Appliances from Salisbury Fire Station and those from further afield, including from Hampshire & IOW Fire and Rescue Service, were in attendance.

In a statement, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said, "We have been called to a commercial building fire on Castle Street, Salisbury.  At the moment, we only know that the fire involves an outbuilding containing propane cylinders. We have appliances from Salisbury and Verwood in attendance along with Hampshire & IOW crews from Romsey, Fordingbridge and St Marys."

In a further update, they confirmed some more details, "The fire involved an outbuilding and the ground floor of the main building.  The outbuilding has been completely destroyed by fire damage and approximately 5% of the main building has been affected by fire.  Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used main jets to extinguish the fire, no casualties have been reported and the fire is now believed to be out.  An investigation will now take place to determine the cause."
