A 53-year-old man has been jailed for a year, after admitting assaulting a member of staff at the Bridge Tap pub on Fisherton Street.
Salisbury Crown Court heard how on 23 October 2025, pub staff attempted to eject David Strain from the premises due to his behaviour.
During this incident, Strain, from Ashley Avenue in Belfast, grabbed a staff member around the throat, and assaulted others when they tried to assist.
He was arrested a short time later, during which he was abusive towards officers and needed to be restrained.
Strain pleaded guilty to assault by beating and intentional strangulation.
PC Mat Jacob said, “We take violence against anyone, whether members of the public or staff working at licensed premises extremely seriously.
“It will never be tolerated.
“Our team of officers is committed to acting quickly and decisively to protect our communities and ensure offenders are held accountable.”
David Strain received a 12-month custodial sentence. In addition, he was excluded from The Bridge Tap Public House for two years and ordered to pay a £187 surcharge.
