A senior Wiltshire Police officer has issued the below statement in relation to speculation about disorder being promoted on social media platforms:
Chief Supt Phil Staynings said: “We are aware that there are a very limited number of social media posts which are causing some understandable concern in our communities.
"Wiltshire Police will continue to monitor and provide reassurance with a high visibility policing footprint across key locations in the County.
"Currently we have not seen any tension or disruption in Swindon or Wiltshire and we are continuing to engage and reassure our communities. This of course is being kept under constant review.
"Wiltshire Police does have contingency plans in place and anyone identified as engaging in disorder will be met with the full Force of the law. We will not hesitate to take robust action against a small minority who are intent on being involved in criminal activity."
