The BIG Sleep returns to Salisbury Cathedral

Fundraisers will once again have the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Alabaré as The Big Sleep returns to Salisbury Cathedral.

On Friday 4th March 2022, participants will bed down for the night outside at the Cathedral Cloisters, supporting rough sleepers and those living in crisis or with no home within the local community.

Alabaré's Big Sleep event was forced to move online last year, and so the charity is excited to be able to bring everyone back together at the Cathedral for their annual flagship event.

Rebecca Mullen, Alabaré’s Fundraising and Development Manager said, “By braving the cold for one night at Salisbury Cathedral Cloisters, participants will get a brief experience of what it is like to sleep rough, whilst raising funds for the most vulnerable and marginalised.

"This enables Alabaré to help those facing this reality get off of the street for good. Since Covid, the situation is ever more precarious with more people struggling financially since the pandemic. We are all acutely aware of the rise in the cost of living and the pressure that is faced by families across Wiltshire and further afield."

Whilst spending the night in the grounds of the cathedral, everyone who signs up pledges to raise a minimum of £100 to help support Alabaré’s work caring for the most vulnerable in the local community.

Alabaré’s Somewhere to go drop-in centres, homes and services in Salisbury and across Wiltshire make a lifesaving difference to hundreds of people each year who find themselves in crisis and homeless.

The Alabaré team are able to provide a safe home and support, as well as help to overcome the challenges that have led someone to that place of despair and need. They give non-judgmental support to help people rebuild their lives and move on to successful, independent lives of their choice once more.

Last year, Alabaré provided support and accommodation to over 1300 people while providing hot meals and emergency shelter to many others.
