Stalemate in Dutton's first game in charge

Brian Dutton's first game as manager of Salisbury ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw away at North Leigh.

A Sam Roberts bullet header late in the game cancelled out the home side's opener in the first half.

Dutton was introduced to the players for the first time just hours before kick-off as he began his tenure as the new Salisbury Manager. The Yorkshireman is well known to supporters, having made over 160 appearances in 3 spells at the Ray Mac, but almost all the players in the current squad are new to him.

It was a game that lacked quality for the most part and didn't ever really spark into life. Not helped by the slope or a swirling wind, both sets of players failed to really grab a stranglehold on the game.

The game's opening goal came after a poor clearance from Salisbury's Josh Sommerton. The ball fell to Jordan Alves, who cooly finished, giving the home side the lead at the break.

A good away following urged The Whites on as the second half developed. Having survived some early pressure, Salisbury grew into the game and, after some substitutions, started creating chances.

Brandon Goodship forced a very good save from Adam North in the North Leigh goal on 75 minutes when he found space in the box.

5 minutes later, Salisbury's pressure paid off when the second of consecutive corners led to the equaliser.

The ball arrived at the back post from the corner, where Sam Roberts rose, unmarked, to power a header home.

The game then petered out as neither side created a moment of note.

Salisbury Radio spoke to manager Brian Dutton after the game.

Salisbury next play Metropolitan Police at the Ray Mac on Saturday 22nd October, a 3 pm Kick Off.
