Two arrested after Salisbury charity shop break-in

Two people are currently in custody following a break in at a charity shop in Salisbury.

The break-in at Naomi’s House in The Maltings was discovered by the manager at 8 am yesterday (18th September) and is believed to have taken place overnight.

A door had been smashed and damage caused to a till. Several items had been stolen from inside, including a safe, a laptop and multiple cameras.

An investigation began as soon as the incident was reported to us, and two people – a man and a woman, both in their 40s and from the local area- were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of theft after a mobile phone was stolen from a shopper in Sainsburys yesterday afternoon (18th September).

Following their arrests, a search was conducted at an address in Harnham linked to the suspects, and a large number of items were seized, including suspected stolen items, a safe, tools and mobile phones.

Sgt Christopher Noke said: “News of a break in at any shop is upsetting but when it is a local charity shop which raises money to support children and young adult hospices in the local area, it certainly hits harder.

“As a result of some excellent teamwork between officers, PCSOs and Salisbury City Watch, I am really pleased that officers were able to conduct extensive enquiries to identify two suspects and locate what we believe to be most of the stolen property, including the safe, which appears to be unopened.”

Both individuals remain in custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing.
