The Chapel to "pause large scale events over Christmas" until more is known about the Omicron variant

The city's local nightclub and live entertainment venue, The Chapel, has announced that they will be pausing large scale events over Christmas until more is known about the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

The news comes as the government new implements rules, which come into place today (15th December 2021), that require all adults in England to show a COVID pass to enter nightclubs, sports matches, and other large events.

To obtain a pass, proof of double vaccination or a recent negative test must be demonstrated.

In a statement posted on social media, The Chapel said, "As a team, we have decided that it is important to be proactive as opposed to reactive therefore we have made the decision to pause a few large scale events over Christmas until we understand more about the Omicron variant.

"As a city with a large number of NHS staff, we feel a certain level of responsibility to make their lives easier by reducing stress on their services. This decision will also allow as many customers as possible to obtain a booster jab, before entering mass crowd settings again.

"We have not made this decision lightly, but the last thing we would want is for everyone to be spreading the virus around at Christmas to friends and family because of an event in our venue.

"We hope you all understand our decision, and we look forward to be opening safely again, hopefully on New Year's Eve. All postponed dates have been rescheduled and are on or ticket website now."

Speaking to Love Salisbury, Chapel Nightclub owner Amanda Newbery added, "We want above all to reduce risk this Christmas so we’re giving our staff and our customers a little extra time this weekend to get boosted."
