A speeding driver who claimed he was late for work has been banned from the roads.
Daniel Walker, 43, of Burbage Wharf, Burbage, was caught on Downton Road, Salisbury, driving at 65mph in a 30mph zone by PC Hammond while conducting speed checks.
Walker was summoned to Swindon Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty.
He was fined £660 and required to pay a victim surcharge of £66 and court costs of £110.
He was also disqualified from driving for 56 days.
PC Hammond of the Salisbury Response Team said: “Being late for work is never an excuse for speeding.
“Always plan ahead and make sure you leave plenty of time for your journey and prepare for unexpected delays.”
Speeding is one of the ‘Fatal Five’ – the five factors which increase the risk of road users being significantly injured or killed in a road traffic collision.
The other four are drink/drug driving, driving while using a mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt and careless or dangerous driving.
All these factors make it harder for a driver to stop their vehicle safely and significantly reduce the driver’s reaction time.
