Salisbury's Superiority Shines through as Whites beat Lavvy in FA Cup

Salisbury's quality shone through, with four first-half goals enough to see them through to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup infront of 1760 supporters at the Ray Mac.

Goals from Josh Keeya, Noah Coppin (2) and George Penn gave Salisbury a dominant position at halftime. Lavvy did grab a late consolation through Carson Arnold after competing well, but the home side's quality was enough to ensure safe passage to the next round.

The game was played with a mix of weather with both bright sunshine and pouring rain, the Ray Mac had a glorious rainbow overhead for some of the second half.

The home side opened the scoring in the fourth minute, when the ball fell to Josh Keeya on the edge of the box. He hit a low drive beyond Zach Roberts in the Laverstock goal.

It didn't take long for Salisbury to double their lead. Noah Coppin was put in on the edge of the area, the ball bounced a couple of times before the Salisbury forward struck low, beating Roberts at his near post.

The game evened out a little after the quick start from the Whites, with Laverstock seeing more of the ball, but not able to create a huge amount in an attacking sense.

Towards the end of the first half, though, Salisbury showed their class, when Noah Coppin struck from just inside the box into the roof of the net, leaving Roberts with little chance in the 37th minute.

With just over five minutes remaining in the first half, George Penn turned inside before curling into the top corner, the ball clipping the underside of the bar, bouncing down and then up into the back of the net to make it four-nil at half-time.

Brian Dutton made one change at the start of the second half, with Matt Briggs coming on to replace Josh Keeya.

The Whites started on the front foot at the start of the second half, just like in the first - Dom Revan whistled one past the post with just five minutes gone in the period.

Referee Adam Wilson waved away big penalty claims in the 69th minute when Josh Hedges went down under a challenge in the Laverstock box. Wilson, however, indicated that Harvey Roberts got a toe to the ball.

Matty Taylor had a great chance in the 85th minute, when a cross from the right found him with space eight yards from goal, but he could only guide his effort straight at Roberts.

Laverstock came closest to registering on the scoresheet in added time, when Thomas Moseley struck just wide from the edge of the box.

The away team finally registered a goal when second-half substitute Carson Arnold finished well to grab a consolation for the Wessex Premier League side in the 97th minute.

That was the last action of the game, with National League South side Salisbury's superiority showing through as they progress to the third qualifying round—the draw for which will be made on Monday (15th September).

Laverstock's FA Cup campaign for the season is now over, but they will have earned the club just under £5,000 in prize money from this year's competition.
