Salisbury's Music for Wellbeing group shortlisted for prestigious award

The Salisbury community interest company Music for Wellbeing has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Sing and Breathe Wiltshire, the weekly singing group for people with lung conditions, which is run by Music for Wellbeing, has been shortlisted in the Award for Best Local Prescribing Project in the Social Prescribing Network Awards 2022.

Sing and Breathe Wiltshire has now been running for nearly five years, and moved online at the beginning of lockdown in 2020. Sessions are now being run in person again, but with the option to also take part online via Zoom which is helpful for participants who live further afield or are not able to travel.

With Covid affecting the lungs of many people, there have been more participants who are living with Long Covid, using singing to improve their breathing and lung capacity.

Participants have said they find the weekly singing group “very friendly and fun.”

Co-Director of Music for Wellbeing CIC, Liv McLennan commented, "It is such an honour and a privilege to be included on this shortlist alongside these other amazing projects. Everyone at Music for Wellbeing is incredibly pleased that Sing and Breathe Wiltshire is being recognised as a great way not only to improve lung health but also to build community and friendships."

The awards ceremony is on March 10th.
