Salisbury City Council has announced details of this year’s Mayor Making celebrations.

The event will take place on Saturday 9 May, marking the appointment of the city’s 765th mayor.

A formal service and Full Council meeting will be held at St Thomas’s Church at 12pm, which the public is welcome to attend.

Alongside this, a free family-friendly event will run in Guildhall Square from 11am to 5pm.

Visitors can enjoy craft workshops, live music, street performances and food stalls.

A civic procession featuring visiting mayors and local dignitaries will travel through the city centre before the ceremony.

The procession will begin at the Guildhall and pass through several streets before arriving at the church.

Road closures will be in place, and residents are advised to check the council’s website for details.

Organisers say the event is a chance for the community to come together and celebrate local tradition.
