Salisbury man in custody following 47-mile pursuit

A Salisbury man is currently in custody following a 47-mile pursuit last night (9th December).

At approximately 11.05 pm, officers from the Roads Policing Unit and Salisbury Community Policing Team attempted to stop a vehicle in Salisbury city centre following concerns it was being driven on cloned plates.

However, it failed to stop, leading officers on a pursuit which lasted approximately 30 minutes.

The vehicle was driven at speed through Laverstock onto the A30 and A343, then had a near miss just past Lopcombe, and then onto the A303.

Working jointly with Hampshire’s Roads Policing Unit, the pursuit eventually ended at Fleet Services on the M3, when the suspect's vehicle ran out of fuel.

Police said in a statement, "A 20-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence, driving with no insurance and drug driving.

"He was taken to Melksham custody where he remains for questioning.

"Enquiries continue.

"Anyone who witnessed the pursuit or may have dash cam footage of the vehicle - a black Mercedes A Class - should get in touch.

"Email 2914@wiltshire.police.uk and quote crime reference number 54250161004."
