Salisbury lose again despite a good performance

A solitary goal was enough to inflict a fifth straight defeat on Brian Dutton's Salisbury side.

Once again, the Whites put in a good performance, full of energy, and they saw plenty of possession. They were, however, unable to take anything from the game, with all 3 points heading back to Devon.

Salisbury made one change from Tuesday's game, with Marvin Brooks returning to the starting lineup in place of Sam Roberts.

Dutton was forced into an early change, however, as Dan Fitchett pulled up injured inside 10 minutes to be replaced by Lawrence.

Salisbury enjoyed much of the possession in the opening half but could not break the deadlock.

The home side did have the ball in the back of the net on 20 minutes as Marvin Brooks slotted home after a James plant strike was saved, only for the assistant to raise his flag for offside.

Both sides had chances but both Benfield in the Salisbury goal and Harry Lee for Parkway. The latter making some excellent saves.

Salisbury started the 2nd half on the front foot, Lee denying Goodship just after the restart, and a block 10 minutes later prevented Brooks from getting on the score sheet.

Despite seeing much of the ball, Salisbury fell behind on 73 minutes. Some patient build-up play created a chance for Callum Hall, who made no mistake and finished from a few yards out.

Devon Arnold was brought on to replace Lawrence and had Salisbury's best chance of getting Salisbury back on terms. Lee again the man to deny the Whites a goal as a produced another fantastic stop to keep Arnold out.

Another defeat, but Salisbury supporters feel like they are seeing the green shoots of recovery and have been bouyed by the effort and football on display as Dutton starts to see his footballing philosophy in the team.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Salisbury FC Women bagged themselves another win as their season continued. They ran out 2-1 away winners at Trowbridge Wanderers Ladies. Both goals were scored by Leanne Griffiths-Lower.
