Wiltshire Creative are promising to set our imagination soaring with an exciting and varied programme with this year's Salisbury International Arts Festival.
The lineup for this year's festival includes a little bit of something for everyone, from an opera based on a men's shed to thrilling circus performances that will wow the public.
There are immersive experiences too with FLIGHT, which will 'land' in the Guildhall Square from the opening day on Saturday, May 24th, and remain there until Sunday, June 1st. FLIGHT takes place in absolute darkness inside a 40ft shipping container. Its interior exactly resembles an Airbus 320 economy cabin and over 30 minutes explores the Many-Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics, taking audience members through two worlds, two realities and two possible outcomes to their journey. There are many worlds in which this plane lands safely.
UNITY will be part of the free offering at this year's festival. It's a large-scale production that merges immersive theatre, circus and community stories in a powerful but intimate way. Local artist Louise Jordan has gathered reflections and responses from the local community that will be woven into the soundtrack of the performance.
SHOULDER TO SHOULDER is an opera about men's sheds. Swansea City Opera collected stories from members of the UK charity Men’s Shed who have experienced life's adversities and isolation to create a contemporary and uplifting opera that explores life’s ups and downs. The performance will also include an appearance from Salisbury and Wilton's men's sheds.
Other highlights include, A Beautiful Thread: Thomas Hardy in Words & Music which will take place at Stonehenge, spectacular dance performances, including Songs of the Bulbul and Ballet Central 2025, incredible live music with Jacqui Dankworth and Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell, and captivating theatre, including The Lord Chamberlain's Men'sTwelfth Night and The Mistake by Michael Mears.
There are events for younger audience members too, including Minny Stynker by Soap Soup Theatre and Darryl J. Carrington's Out of the Box.
One of the opening events will mark the 50th anniversary of St Edmund's Church being transformed into Salisbury Arts Centre. An Evensong will take place at Salisbury Arts Centre before the choir makes their way to St Thomas' Church, and all ticket holders will be welcome to join them for refreshments.
Tickets go on General Sale on Monday 10th March with the full line up on the WIltshire Creative Website: https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/salisbury-international-arts-festival
