Salisbury City Council has invested in two e-bikes as part of a new Travel Action Plan, allowing staff to travel more sustainably while at work.
In 2019, Salisbury City Council declared a Climate Emergency. In response, the council is committed to encouraging and maintaining sustainable commuting and business travel for staff and visitors to reduce the environmental impact of transport-related council activities.
Sustrans was commissioned by the council to complete an independent review of policy, procedures, and processes and deliver a TAP with opportunities and recommendations for consideration.
The TAP is aimed at reducing the impact of travel across all Salisbury City Council sites, covering all employees, councillors, and volunteers. It also assists in meeting the objectives of the Environmental Policy Action Plan, which is in place to help the council lower its carbon footprint and move towards net zero.
The £3893.33 investment in the new e-bikes and additional equipment, such as helmets, marks a positive first step in meeting the aims outlined in the TAP. It will allow staff at the Tollgate Road Depot to travel more sustainably during business travel during working hours.
Cllr John Wells, Chair of the Environment and Climate Committee, said, “The Travel Action Plan clearly sets out the long-term planned commitment of Salisbury City Council to reduce our carbon footprint and improve air quality throughout the city.”
