A new study reveals that NHS GPs in Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire have the fastest response times in England.

Personal injury experts at Claims.co.uk analysed data from the Office for National Statistics Health Insight Survey for NHS healthcare services in England to reveal the response rates of GP practices. The ranking is based on the percentage of people who were successful in making contact with their GP on the same day as their attempt for each NHS care board across the country.

Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire has the fastest responding GPs in England. Of the 1,039 people who attempted contact with their GP, 88.8% made contact on the same day, which is 923 people.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire is home to the second fastest GP practices, with 86.5% of 878 people making contact with their GP on the same day as their initial attempt, which is 759 people.

In third place is Lancashire and South Cumbria, with 85.9% of 1,560 people successfully making contact with their GP on the same day in the 28 day period, which equates to 1,340 people.

South Yorkshire and Coventry and Warwickshire are in joint fourth position, with 84.6% of their respective residents being successful with contacting their GP on the same day as their attempt. In South Yorkshire, out of 996 people in total, 841 made contact on the same day and in Coventry and Warwickshire, 642 of 759 people in total were successful.

The fifth fastest responding GP practices are in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, with 84% (345) of 441 people in total making contact with their GP on the same day.

A spokesperson for Claims.co.uk adds, “Analysing the latest Health Insight Survey provides an accurate record of people attempting to reach their GPs in everyday life, with varying degrees of success across the country.

“While locations are a clear factor in the rate of same day contact with your NHS GP, the survey also reveals that age may play a role too. Those aged between 16-24 are almost 16% less likely to get through to a GP on the same day than those aged 75 and older.

“With the struggle of making NHS GP appointments making news frequently in the UK, it will be interesting to see if these percentages increase with a 4.7% increase in revenue allocation according to the Autumn Budget”.
