Officers from Wiltshire Police seized an illegal e-bike while on patrol in Wilton, finding it had an overpowered power unit.

While on patrol last night as part of Operation Ragwort, a rural crime operation, Inspector Lemon and PC Higton of Wiltshire Police seized an illegally modified e-bike in The Avenue, Wilton, after the rider tried to evade officers.

In a statement, police said, "The bike was fitted with an 864-watt power unit, far exceeding the legal limit of 250 watts.

"The rider was reported for:

❌ No insurance
❌ No driving licence

"They will be summonsed to court, and the bike will not be returned.

"Many high-powered e-bikes can be easily purchased online, but that does not mean they are legal to use on the road. Before buying, please check that your e-bike complies with legislation"
