New partnership to show 'All Girls can do Anything'

Girlguiding South West and award-winning social enterprise Stemettes have teamed up to inspire and empower girls and young women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths—together known as STEAM.

Girlguiding South West England and Stemettes have unveiled their new partnership, joining forces to demonstrate that girls can excel in these areas and to foster a supportive community that encourages exploration and creativity.

Girlguiding South West England is one of the nine Countries and Regions that make up the wider Girlguiding movement. It covers 16 Counties and Islands and is made up of almost 12,000 volunteers and 45,000 girls and young women.

In 2025, the two organisations will create a brand-new resource challenge pack, giving young members of Girlguiding South West England a chance to discover the exciting possibilities within STEAM.

Girls will gain valuable insights and complete challenges, helping them to build their confidence and skills. There will also be the chance for 15–25-year-old members to participate in the Stemettes mentoring programme and opportunities for all girls and volunteers to attend Stemettes-led events.

This partnership not only highlights the importance of diversity in STEAM fields, but also reinforces the message that all girls can do anything. Together, Girlguiding South West England and Stemettes are committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring that every girl and young women feels empowered, showing them STEAM is for all.

Racheal Tattum, Chief Commissioner for Girlguiding South West England, said, “This is an exciting opportunity for all sections of our membership, and to complement our guiding programme, discovering more STEAM possibilities. Stemettes values reflects our guiding values; respect, youth centred, youth focussed, joy and being supportive. In today’s very competitive world, it is a great opportunity to help girls develop the skills and confidence to become the young women they want to be and to make a difference to the world around them.”

Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, CEO and Head of Stemette, said, “We are delighted to partner with Girlguiding South West England to support their young members to get excited about the worlds of STEM and STEAM while earning a first-of-its-kind Stemettes Girlguiding badge. Connecting members to powerful follow-on opportunities like events and mentoring will lead to better representation across the field. Welcome Girlguiding members to the Stemette life”.
