New Lidl store to replace Smyths Toys in the city

Smyths Toys in Salisbury are planning to vacate their Churchill Way West site, to be replaced by a second Lidl store.

An application has been made to Wiltshire Council to replace both Smyths Toys and HomeSense, which will “vacate the site” early next year.

Urban Edge Architecture has applied for permission to the changes at Units 1 and 2 of the Churchill Way West Retail Park.

The application says the redevelopment will mean increasing the size of Unit 1 to “reflect the needs of the incoming Lidl foodstore operator”, with the second unit occupying the rest of the space.

As only Lidl is listed as occupying the units if the plans are approved, Unit 2 is being listed as “TBC”.

The application suggests that Smyths Toys intend to vacate the site in January next year and with HomeSense leaving in February.

The planned Lidl store will be the second in Salisbury, the other at Hatches Lane.
