The Poultry Cross in Salisbury will need further repairs following the discovery of a new 'defect' found during an inspection.
In a statement, the new defect was confirmed by Salisbury City Council: "On the final inspection of the Poultry Cross, the structural engineer located a previously undetected issue with a stone pinnacle, located above the damaged buttressing pier.
"Temporary strapping has been installed at the rear of the pinnacle but a more permanent repair will be required. This defect is as a result of the impact damage sustained by the structure from last year’s collision.
"A small section of the Poultry Cross will be scaffolded on Thursday 20th April 2023 for final works on this section of higher elevation of the monument. Works will start on Monday 24th April for approx. 2 weeks.
"Further conservation works on lower elevations of the monument are planned for 2024/25."
This latest discovery comes after the extensive repair work carried out after the Poultry Cross was damaged when hit by a car being chased by the police.
