A thatch fire on a cottage in West Grimstead drew fire crews from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service with support from Hampshire Crews.
Crews from Salisbury, Wilton, Verwood, Fordingbridge, Romsey, Lyndhurst, Eastleigh and Redbridge attended the fire on Church Street in West Grimstead.
The Fire service was first called just before 3 pm yesterday afternoon and found the roof to be well alight. Wearing breathing apparatus, they accessed the loft and were able to create a fire break and extinguish the fire.
Local residents were warned to keep windows and doors closed as the fire had called low-lying smoke, not helped by the cold weather. People were also warned to stay away from the area.
The home owners think that a wood burner was the probable cause of the fire.
