Man jailed for theft and handling stolen goods in Salisbury

A man has been jailed for handling stolen goods and theft following incidents in Salisbury.

At a hearing at Salisbury Crown Court on Monday (2nd June), Troy Russell, 28, of Sherbourne Drive, Old Sarum, was jailed for 16 months. He is also required to pay a victim surcharge of £154.

On March 6th last year, a mobile home in Old Sarum was broken into and several electronic items, including a TV, iPad, laptop and headphones, plus a wallet and cash, were stolen.

A number of the items were then located at Russell’s home address, and he was arrested.

On another occasion, on February 12 last year, Russell was visiting a friend in Dews Road, Salisbury, when he stole her purse from inside the property.

Russell was subsequently charged and pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and theft.

Detective Sergeant Myles Scott of the Volume Crime Team said: “There can be no excuse for Russell’s actions, and I'm grateful that the courts have acknowledged the severity of Russell's offending.

“There is no place for this type of behaviour in Wiltshire, and I am hopeful this sentence sends out a message to those intent on causing harm in our communities.”
