Man arrested following garage break-ins in Amesbury

A man has been arrested after a number of garages were broken into in Amesbury overnight.

Police were called by a resident shortly after 7 am this morning, reporting that multiple garages in McQueen Walk had been targeted, with several thousands of pounds worth of tools stolen.

Enquiries were carried out in the area, and a vehicle believed to have been used to carry out the burglaries was later located in the Roman Road area of Salisbury.

A man in his 30s from Bemerton Heath was arrested on suspicion of non-dwelling burglary. He is currently in custody in Melksham for questioning.

Insp Tina Osborn said: “Officers acted swiftly to conduct enquiries at the scene, which led to the identification of a vehicle believed to have been involved in these burglaries and the subsequent arrest of an individual.

“Although we have made an arrest, our enquiries are very much in their infancy and we would urge residents in the McQueen Walk and Lightfoot Road areas to check their CCTV, doorbell cameras or dash cams for any relevant footage which could assist our investigation. We’d also urge anyone who was in the area overnight who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity to contact us.”
