Wiltshire Council will carry out work later this month to refurbish the traffic lights and refresh road markings on Lode Hill in Downton.
A road closure will be in place from Monday, June 17th, to Friday, July 12th, to enable the council to complete the work safely.
To keep disruption to a minimum, work will be carried out between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the road open outside of these hours and during the weekends.
To ensure pedestrians can still get around safely, and following a request from Downton Parish Council, a virtual footway will be reinstated during the work, with additional dropped kerbs added on the western side of the road to increase footway accessibility.
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these works, but it’s our priority to ensure that residents can travel around safely.
“Traffic lights play a vital role in managing traffic movement as well as ensuring pedestrians and cyclists can cross busy junctions safely and these improvement works reflect our commitment to road safety, as set out in our Business Plan.”
During the closure, pedestrian and cycle access to Lode Hill will be maintained where possible.
On the day of the General Election, 4th July, the road will be open to enable people to vote, but it will be under temporary traffic signals to keep the team working on the lights safe.
