Local sides progress in FA Cup qualifying rounds

Two local sides, Salisbury FC and Laverstock and Ford FC, have both won their first qualifying round ties. They will now await the draw for the second qualifying round.

Laverstock were in new territory, having never reached this competition stage. They travelled to Cinderford Town in Gloucestershire to face higher league competition.

The Wessex Premier side got off to a great start and led after five minutes through Peter Fletcher. The Bulldogs then doubled their lead five minutes later, courtesy of Chae Sykes. The Salisbury-based side led two-nil at halftime.

Laverstock had a goal ruled out before Cinderford fought back at the start of the second half. Ben Brooks was the man to get the home side back in the game.

Lavvy re-established their two-goal lead midway through the second period through Russell Jones.

Cinderford gave Liam McConnell's side a nervy end to the game when they scored from the spot. Brooks doubled his tally for the day, putting the ball beyond Matthew Taylor in the Laverstock goal.

Laverstock held on and are in the second qualifying round for the first time in their history.

Steve Claridge's Salisbury FC will join them in the draw after their second win at Poole Town in six days. The goals in each half from Sam Roberts and Sam Ashton saw the Whites in the next round.

The draw for the second qualifying round of the FA Cup took place on Monday, 5th September at 1 pm.

Both sides have both been drawn against Vanarama National League South sides.

Salisbury will face Oxford City at the Ray Mac whilst Laverstock will make the trip to Somerset for their match with play Taunton Town. Both games will be played on the weekend of Saturday 17th September.
