Emergency Gas works on Devizes Road in Salisbury caused issues this morning with trucks becoming stuck in nearby side roads.
The road was closed overnight near the Hoi Fan takeaway and Clifton road for emergency gas repairs by Southern Gas Networks, with the road remaining closed this morning and could be closed for the next few days.
Wiltshire Council have said, "The A360 Devizes Road in Salisbury is closed this morning due to a major gas leak. SGN is currently working on site to fix the leak, but the road may be closed for a few days. Please avoid the area if you can."
Footpaths are currently open around the works.
Traffic has been using Ashley Road as a diversion route after discovering the closure after already being a long way down the A360, local residents complained on social media there was no signage to warn drivers of the closure.
At least one lorry became stuck in Cold Harbour Lane after trying to use it to as a diversion to avoid the road closure.
The work follows a gas leak that was discovered.
