Salisbury, along with the rest of the UK, is set to experience its fullest eclipse since 1999 this evening.
At approximately 7:14 pm this evening, people in Salisbury, South Wiltshire and West Hampshire will be able to witness a near-full eclipse of the sun, as the moon crosses the face of the sun.
It's hugely important that you never look directly at the sun, or use a device like a mobile phone to do so. It could either damage your sight or your phone's camera sensor.
When will things happen?
- 6:17 pm: Partial eclipse begins
- 7:14 pm: Maximum coverage
- 8:07 pm: Partial eclipse finishes just before the Sun dips past the horizon.
Where to watch from?
- Cranborne Chase: Head into the Cranborne Chase Dark Sky Reserve or high points along Cranborne Chase for wide open western horizons.
- Salisbury Plain: Find a safe, accessible elevated spot on the plain with a clean view of the low evening setting sun.
- Local high ground: Look for any local ridge or open field facing west-northwest with no blocking trees or buildings
With 'Eclipse Glasses' widely sold out, there are some DIY options, including a pin-hole projector, which can be made from items most people have lying around the house:
