A man has been given a driving disqualification just three weeks after passing his test.
Harvey Teale, 18, of Cator Road, Larkhill, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court on November 28 and pleaded guilty to drink driving.
At approximately 1:30 am on September 28th, concerns were raised by members of the public that Teale was intoxicated and had got into a Vauxhall Corsa.
A description of the vehicle was given to officers, and it was believed to be heading toward Southampton Road.
Officers located the vehicle and observed a poor standard of driving. Teale admitted he was over the legal driving limit and subsequently failed a breath test.
PC Aaron Pedliham said: “Teale had only held a driving licence for three weeks before he was stopped and found to be over the drink drive limit. His manner of driving, when spotted by police, fell well below the standard we would expect of a competent driver, and I am pleased a driving ban has been handed out.
"This approach to driving, despite being so new to the roads, is unacceptable and puts lives at risk.
"Driving under the influence of alcohol is a fatal 5 offence – one of the leading causes of serious injury and fatalities on our roads.
“Over the Christmas period, more people will be out and about celebrating and consuming alcohol. Please, ensure you have planned your journey home and do not drink and drive.”
As well as the driving ban, Teale was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 in CPS costs, and a £48 surcharge.
