Church Road development in Laverstock rejected by planning committee

A proposed housing development in Church Road, Laverstock, has been rejected by a Wiltshire Council strategic planning committee.

The application faced lots of local objections including from Laverstock and Ford Parish Council, in which the land sits.

The planning committee heard about a newly revised outline plan for a smaller development of 49 homes adjacent to Church Road, reducing the area and number of homes proposed. The previous proposals had seen a number of homes to be built at 135 homes.

Many comments were made on the application, with many objecting on various grounds.

Cllr Ian McLennan spoke passionately about in objection to the application, citing Cockey Down as locally important and describing the developer applying to build the houses as a 'bully developer'.

Chair of Laverstock and Ford Parish Council, Cllr Nick Baker, said on social media, "I fear this is not the end of the story, but a victory based in local voices being heard and the hard work that has gone into our neighbourhood plan and all the residents who commented on application and the local plan."

The planning committee voted to reject the planning application by 7 to 1 to oppose the application.
