Castle Street sewerage works set to cause delays next week

Wessex Water is set to carry out works on the sewerage system on Castle Street next week, with temporary traffic lights being put in place.

Three-way lights will be put up on the junction of Mill Stream Approach on Monday, 3rd June, for emergency sewerage repairs.

The work is expected to be completed by Friday, 14th June but are also expected to cause disruption to traffic. This will be compounded by Fisherton Street still being one way.

There is no expected disruption of water supply during the period of the works.

Wessex Water has said: “Our repair teams will be working extended hours and at weekends, with temporary lights required to work quickly and safely.

“We’re sorry for any traffic delays caused by this urgent and essential work on our sewerage network.”

The lights will run 24 hours a day, but they will be controlled manually during peak times to try and alleviate delays as much as possible.

However, Salisbury Reds are also warning of delays due to the proximity of the works to their depot on Castle Street.

Dave Bowen from Salisbury Reds said, “We have liaised with both Wessex Water and Wiltshire Council regarding these emergency works, and the resulting traffic management. We understand traffic signals will be operated manually over both morning and evening peak times, to help ease congestion.

"We will do our best to minimise any disruption for the duration of the works but we are expecting significant delays to services, which are beyond our control. We would like to thank our customers for their understanding during this time.”
