The British supermarket chain Asda has submitted a new planning application for the land adjacent to Hampton Park roundabout in Salisbury.
If approved, the plans would bring a new 4,657sq food store featuring a café, a drive-thru coffee shop unit and a petrol filling station.
The store would also have the capacity for an online grocery operation, with the capability to provide Click & Collect services and home delivery to customers in Salisbury.
The development will also include parking, access and servicing. The car park will be able to hold a total of 323 cars, including disabled, family and electric vehicle charging spaces. Parking for 48 bicycles and for 4 motorcycles is also in the plans.
The supermarket chain has also proposed alterations to the existing vehicular access from London Road with new access routes for pedestrians and cyclists proposed on London Road, Green Lane and Pearce Way.
This will include a new pedestrian and cycle link between London Road and Green Lane and an extension to the existing footway along Pearce Way to the Hampton Park roundabout.
In October last year, the retailer sent an informational leaflet to residents in the Bishopdown Farm and Hampton Park area. This leaflet detailed that the new £20 million would create up to 250 jobs in the city if approved.
Speaking on the new plans, an Asda spokesperson said, “We’re committed to investing in Salisbury and were delighted with the level of support we received from the local community when we presented our plans last November.
"The proposals have the potential to create more than 200 jobs and an investment of £20million in Salisbury, and we look forward to working with Wiltshire Council and local stakeholders as the plans progress.”
Salisbury City Councillor and Leader of the Salisbury City Council Conservatives, Charles McGrath explained, "Salisbury residents will have seen that a planning application has been submitted for a new Asda superstore and drive-thru on the London Road. A consultation was held for Bishopdown Farm, Hampton Park and Riverdown Park residents in November last year which gave the applicant a range of views on the topic - but there's always room for more!
"Asda will soon host presentations for Salisbury City Council and Laverstock & Ford Parish Council and I'd greatly encourage people from across Salisbury to make their voices heard."
