Nationwide has committed to staying in Amesbury as the town becomes one of many across the UK impacted by unprecedented branch closures in recent years.
Despite Amesbury’s population of over 10,000, Nationwide has been left as the last branch standing in town after Lloyds closed two years ago.
Britain’s biggest building society is reaffirming its commitment to communities by continuing to offer face-to-face service. Its Branch Promise means it will remain everywhere it has a branch until at least 2026.
As banks shifted their focus away from physical branches over recent years, Amesbury is not the only town where Nationwide is now the last branch on the high street. Over 80 communities up and down the country are now served by Nationwide alone.
The Amesbury branch has been in town since 1981 and remains busy today, with ATM usage up 9% in the last 12 months.
