A new addition to Cross Keys Shopping Centre in Salisbury is proving that local families are ready for a different way to shop. Hand Me Down Salisbury, which opened its doors just a month ago, passed the milestone of 1,000 items rehomed only two weeks after opening.
Founded by Salisbury mum Jacqui Machin, Hand Me Down Salisbury allows local families to donate their children's outgrown clothes, toys and baby equipment and earn a small profit when each item sells, so decluttering becomes a chance to put money back into the family budget.
Catering for ages 0 - 5, the shop stocks clothing, pushchairs, baby carriers, toys, books and nursing accessories, as well as maternity clothing for parents-to-be. The store is built on the idea that good quality items deserve more than one home, and that local families should benefit when they pass things on.
The first 1,000 items rehomed included:
- 554 items of children's clothing
- 148 toys
- 5 baby carriers
- 4 cots
- 3 baby baths
- 2 pushchairs
- 1 nursing pillow
- Alongside hundreds more!
These figures don't include the everyday essentials the store has given away for free, such as socks, pants, tights and cutlery, which aren't tracked.
With the cost of raising young children a concern for many households, Hand Me Down Salisbury offers a practical alternative to buying new, keeping quality items in use for longer and reducing waste along the way.
